Llewellyn Skea

I started my Sub A year at Grey. I resided in Murray House, where my resident teachers were Messrs Baff Bornman and Biscuits Cilliers; then in Brill House with Messrs Patat Cronje, Michau Heyns and Travers Jordaan as law enforcers; and finally Leith House with Messrs Stonie Steenkamp and Ewie Cronje as House Sheriffs.

Today, I still use the Hamilton Hall prayer when I say grace (a new teacher learned quickly not to deviate from this prayer. The teacher was often in the middle of his version when all the boys pulled out their chairs as they thought he was done).

I started my military conscription in 1969, hating every minute of it (today however, I have a lot of stories to tell and laugh about). I worked for nine years at Eskom, then bought a farm in the Modder River district (1980). From 2008 to 2010 I rendered services to the De Beers and BHP Billiton Mines as an electrical contractor.

As farming is a part of my DNA, I quit the mining industry, bought an extensive stock farm and relocated to the Fauresmith District where I am currently residing.
