Steven Magnus

I was at Grey from Sub A (1957) to Matric. In January 1969 I joined Barclays Bank Maitland Street Branch. In June 1969 I was called to the Air Force Gymnasium in Valhalla. I was seconded as an Operations and Intelligence clerk to 21 Squadron, the VIP squadron that ferried the State President , Prime Minister and Military Chiefs around the country including, the then “Border Region”. In July 1970 I returned to the bank for a further two years.

I then joined Barlows Caterpillar Division. In 1974 I married Carol Crowe (a Eunice girl). Barlows then transferred me to Johannesburg. In 1980 I qualified as a Chartered Company Secretary. In 1984 I joined the Dorbyl Group and spent several years working in their various divisions.

I have been with Rich Products Corporation, a multinational USA-based frozen food company, since the turn of the new millennium. After retiring, they asked me to stay on as a business analyst, working half days for four days a week, which I did until 2020.

Carol and I were blessed with three boys and a girl who are all married. We also have seven grandchildren. Saturday braais and Sunday lunches at our home in Kempton Park are a blast when we are all together.

Our one son and his wife moved to Australia in 2018: not so lekker for us, but probably the best for them.
